FAQ
How big is your business?
Production, filming, and photography are all handled by John Kloess with design and administrative assistance from his talented wife Rachel.
How much do you charge?
Cost is dependent on multiple factors including industry standards, the type of project, equipment, amount of work involved, add-ons, etc. Take a look at some of my package options here to clarify your business needs; when you're ready we can have a discovery call or introductory email to discuss your project, and you’ll be given a contract with the final agreed-upon details and pricing.
Do you only work for Catholic organizations?
While Six Candle Studio’s mission is geared toward Catholic organizations and projects as our “niche,” I am happy to work with other types of clients, provided the organization and/or project do not present an ideological conflict with the ideals of my business.
Can I hire Six Candle Studio if I’m not in Ohio?
Sure! Costs associated with travel for in-person components of the project can be worked into your contract.
Do you use AI?
I do not use large language models or AI software to generate video, photo, or text from scratch; tools such as those rely on duplicating the efforts of many different artists, sometimes in ways that are ethically ambiguous. The work of artisans should always be done in such a way that machines are tools rather than shoddy substitutes. However, software tools that merely supplement the creative process - but still require human input (such as EbSynth) - may be part of my workflow depending on the project.
What do the six candles mean?
Pope Benedict XVI advocated the use of six candles on altars facing "versus populum" (toward the people). This better emphasizes the importance of the Eucharistic sacrifice offered by a priest at the Mass, highlights the centrality of the altar in worship, and acts as a soft barrier between the priest and people - so that the priest does not become a mere entertainer.
John Kloess has been making videos since he first got his hands on a camera at the age of four. He made his first viral video when he was still in high school, and went on to double major in film and theology at DeSales University, where he received his bachelor’s degree. For the past seven years, he has worked as Digital Media Manager for the Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. Conrad, doing everything from videography and video editing to photography and graphics to running all of the province’s social media accounts. While working with the Capuchins in Denver, John received an MA in Theology from the Augustine Institute, where he met his wife, Rachel.
In addition to all of the projects produced for the Capuchins, John has completed many personal projects and created several YouTube channels, such as Catechesis vids where he produces catechetical animated videos addressing various Catholic topics, and JP Kloess, where his animated summaries of book series have delighted as many as a million viewers.
John currently lives in Columbus, Ohio with his wife, where he is looking forward to applying his years of media experience to serve new Catholic groups in the thriving Columbus diocese and beyond.
